Prime Minister urged citizens to adopt responsible spending habits, cut fuel consumption and support local products amid rising global uncertainty and surging oil prices.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to actively support India’s economic stability as global tensions and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact fuel prices and international trade.
Addressing a gathering in Hyderabad, Modi urged people to reduce fuel consumption by using public transport, carpooling and electric vehicles. He also encouraged industries and logistics operators to prioritise railway freight movement to lower dependence on imported fuel.
“Patriotism is not limited to sacrifice at the borders. In difficult times, it also means acting responsibly in daily life for the nation’s benefit,” the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting concerns over rising crude oil prices and pressure on foreign exchange reserves, Modi advised citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, destination weddings abroad and non-essential gold purchases for at least a year. He also called for reduced edible oil consumption, saying it would benefit both the economy and public health.
Additionally, the Prime Minister pushed for wider adoption of work-from-home practices, online meetings and virtual conferences.
Modi further stressed the importance of the “Vocal for Local” campaign and urged people to prioritise Indian-made products. Farmers were also encouraged to reduce chemical fertiliser use and shift towards solar-powered irrigation systems.
The appeals come amid a prolonged crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route, where escalating tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States have disrupted shipping and driven energy prices sharply higher.
