Opposition Holds Crucial Meet Ahead of Assam Vote Count

Alliance reviews counting preparedness, emphasises vigilance, coordination, and post-result planning.

Guwahati: With just a day remaining for the Assam Assembly election results, leaders of the opposition alliance convened a crucial strategy meeting in Guwahati on Saturday to prepare for the counting process.

The meeting brought together senior national and regional leaders, including AICC in-charge Jitendra Singh, senior observers D.K. Shivakumar and Bhupesh Baghel, along with Bhakta Charan Das. Also present were Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi, AJP chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, APHLC president Joyram Engleng (John Ingti Kathar), CPI(M) secretary Suprakash Talukdar, CPI(ML) leader Bibek Das, MP Rakibul Hussain, and several APCC office bearers.

During the meeting, leaders carried out a detailed review of preparations for the vote counting scheduled for May 4. They stressed the importance of maintaining close oversight to ensure a transparent and fair process.

Speaking at the meeting, APCC president Gaurav Gogoi states, “We met today to review important issues related to the counting process and to ensure that our candidates are fully prepared for every stage,” the statement said. It further emphasised that “ensuring transparency, coordination, and vigilance during counting remains our top priority.”

In addition, the alliance discussed possible political scenarios and outlined preliminary strategies for government formation, depending on the outcome.

The meeting highlights intensified coordination within the opposition bloc as the state approaches the final and decisive phase of the electoral process.
