Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta and MLA Rupak Sharma inspect sites under Hatichong Mouza as administration readies action at three government grazing reserves
Nagaon: The Nagaon district administration has stepped up preparations for an eviction operation targeting alleged encroachments on government grazing reserve land in Hatichong Mouza, following what officials described as prolonged non-compliance with eviction notices.
Ahead of the proposed exercise, Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta and MLA Rupak Sharma visited the identified locations along with senior district officials to assess the ground situation and review administrative arrangements.
The planned action will cover Government Grazing Reserve No. 72 under Goraimari Pathar Kissam and Government Grazing Reserve Nos. 62 and 63 under Bogoriguri Pam Kissam, all situated within the Nagaon Sadar Revenue Circle.
According to officials, parts of the notified reserve land were allegedly occupied through the construction of permanent houses, while ponds were also excavated within the protected grazing areas. Authorities maintain that such activities violated the intended use of the land.
Officials said eviction notices were served on July 25, 2025, directing occupants to vacate the sites. However, the administration claims the directives were not followed, prompting preparations for enforcement measures.
With preliminary inspections now complete, district authorities are expected to move forward with the eviction drive in the coming days as part of efforts to reclaim government land and protect designated grazing reserves.
