IAF and state helicopters evacuates stranded passengers, including NPSC aspirants as NSDMS expands relief efforts and financial assistance across affected districts
Dimapur: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has intensified rescue and relief operations as persistent monsoon rains continue to trigger landslides and disrupt road connectivity across several districts.
With road links to Mon and Longleng cut off, the NSDMA deployed Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters and a state government helicopter to evacuate stranded passengers and deliver essential relief supplies. Between July 23 and 24, the IAF evacuated 148 people, including 43 from Mon and 105 from Longleng, while the state helicopter airlifted another 41 passengers from Mon, taking the total number of evacuees to 189.
The rescued passengers included students and candidates appearing for the Nagaland Public Service Commission’s Combined Educational Services Examination (CESE), ensuring they could reach their destinations despite the disruption.
The air operations also transported food supplies, medical kits and clothing to isolated districts. On the ground, relief materials were dispatched to Tuli, Patizung Ward and Changtongya, where ration assistance was provided to displaced families.
The NSDMA has also released emergency financial assistance to families affected by landslides in Wokha, Shamator and Zunheboto districts. Road clearance, damage assessment and restoration of essential services are continuing on priority across the state.
