Meghalaya Launches House-to-House Voter Verification Drive Under SIR

BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification until July 29 as the Election Commission begins updating electoral rolls across all 60 Assembly constituencies

Shillong: House-to-house verification under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin across Meghalaya on Tuesday, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) launching a month-long door-to-door exercise to update the state’s voter database.

The verification drive will continue until July 29, covering all 60 Assembly constituencies. During the exercise, BLOs will visit households to distribute self-enumeration forms to electors whose names were included in the 2005 electoral rolls, which have been adopted as the baseline for the revision.

The initiative aims to verify voter details, facilitate corrections where required and ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral rolls ahead of future elections.

Appealing for public cooperation, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal urged residents to actively participate in the exercise. “The objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to include eligible voters, not exclude them,” Baranwal said.

The district administration has enabled online submission of self-enumeration forms through the Election Commission’s website and established helplines to assist voters. Eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18 can also apply for enrolment using Form 6 during the revision process.

East Khasi Hills has deployed 1,021 Booth Level Officers across an equal number of polling stations. Officials said the administration is coordinating with traditional headmen and community representatives to build public confidence and address concerns over reported voter exclusions in other states.

The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, while claims and objections can be submitted between August 5 and September 4.
