Manipur Security Operations: 23 Illegal Bunkers Destroyed: 18 IEDs Recovered

Coordinated action across Ukhrul and Tengnoupal targets militant infrastructure and explosive materials.

Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have intensified operations against militant networks, resulting in the demolition of 23 illegal bunkers and the recovery of 18 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), officials confirmed on Saturday.

The largest operation took place in the hill areas under Litan Police Station in the Ukhrul district. Forces carried out a planned drive across villages such as Mongkot Chepu, Shongphel, Mullam, Sirarakhong, and Ringue. Authorities said these bunkers were “constructed without authorization” and were suspected of being used for unlawful and armed activities. As a result, the structures were dismantled to prevent further use and reduce security risks.

During the operation, security personnel also seized weapons and ammunition. The recovered items included a 12-bore pump-action firearm, 17 live cartridges of different calibres, and 111 empty bullet shells. Officials stated that the materials are being examined as part of an ongoing investigation.

In a separate operation in Tengnoupal district, security teams recovered 18 IEDs. Bomb disposal squads were deployed to safely handle and neutralise the explosives, which authorities described as a major step in preventing potential attacks.

Officials added that such operations will continue as part of broader efforts to curb insurgency and maintain stability. Residents have been urged to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activity.
