Over 2.81 lakh students clear exam; Dima Hasao leads district as performance trends show steady progress

Guwahati: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) announced the HSLC Examination 2026 results on Friday, recording an overall pass percentage of 65.62%, marking a significant academic milestone for students across the state.
Out of 4,29,249 candidates who appeared, 2,81,701 students successfully cleared the examination. A total of 4,38,564 students had registered, of which 9,315 remained absent, 135 were expelled, and five results were withheld.
The exams were conducted from February 10 to 27, and results were declared on April 10 under the revamped ASSEB system, which replaced the earlier SEBA framework.
In terms of gender-wise performance, 1,86,468 male and 2,42,781 female candidates appeared. Boys outperformed girls with a pass percentage of 67.78%, compared to 63.96% among female candidates.
Among districts, Dima Hasao led with an impressive 88.23%, followed by Sivasagar 84.08% and Dibrugarh 78.46%, while Cachar recorded the lowest at 49.13%.
Division-wise, 85,189 students secured first division, including 3,983 distinctions and 13,681 star marks. Meanwhile, 1,50,167 candidates passed in second division, and 46,345 in third division. Additionally, 99,062 students earned letter marks in various subjects.
Category-wise, ST (P) candidates performed best at 73.65%, followed by OBC (71.65%) and MOBC (70.94%), whereas Tea Tribe candidates registered 50.51%, the lowest among groups.
With the results now out, lakhs of students across Assam move a step closer to their academic and career goals. The outcome not only reflects consistent effort and resilience but also signals growing educational momentum in the state.
