“Don’t Leave Counting Centres” Mamata Tells TMC Agents: Alleges Irregularities in Early Rounds

Claims counting halted at nearly 100 locations; flags “mismatch” in seven machines at Kalyani, says several leading seats not being reported

West Bengal: As counting progressed in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a strong appeal to Trinamool Congress (TMC) counting agents and candidates, urging them not to leave counting centres amid allegations of irregularities in early trends.

In a video message shared on social media, Banerjee claimed that counting had been halted after two to three rounds in nearly 100 locations. She also pointed to discrepancies in Kalyani, stating that “seven machines were found where there was no match,” raising concerns over the credibility of the process.

Further, she alleged a coordinated attempt to influence outcomes, accusing the BJP of deploying a strategy to project favourable early leads. “They will show their results first and ours later in the initial rounds,” she said, adding that several constituencies where the TMC was leading in an estimated 70 to 100 seats were not being reflected in reported trends.

Banerjee also criticised the role of central forces and the Election Commission, alleging pressure on local administration. She claimed party offices were being targeted and described the situation as “forceful suppression.”

Despite early setbacks, she urged party workers to remain patient. Emphasising that only three to four rounds had been completed out of a total of 14 to 18 rounds in many constituencies, she expressed confidence in a turnaround “after sunset.” “Do not be afraid. Stay strong and continue the fight,” she said, encouraging supporters to remain vigilant until the counting concludes.
