Journalists submit memorandum to Himanta Biswa Sarma seeking welfare schemes, basic facilities and a dedicated press building in Haflong
Haflong: Members of the Dima Hasao Press Club met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Diphu on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum seeking better welfare support and basic facilities for working journalists in the district.
The delegation highlighted the challenges faced by media professionals in the remote hill district, particularly due to limited infrastructure and logistical difficulties.
The journalists urged the state government to introduce welfare schemes and provide basic facilities for accredited media personnel. They also sought a dedicated press building in Haflong to serve as a common venue for press conferences, meetings and training programmes.
The delegation further requested special consideration for the families of long-serving journalists and called for the revival of organised exposure tours that had previously helped reporters gain wider knowledge of Assam’s cultural and socio-economic landscape.
The memorandum also underlined the role of journalists in reporting public concerns and maintaining communication between the government and the people. The press club representatives thanked the Chief Minister for meeting them and sought his intervention for early action on their demands.
