Assam’s flood situation improved on August 16 as the affected population fell to around 51,800 across five districts, while the death toll remained at 104

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam showed further improvement on Sunday, August 16, with around 51,800 people still affected across five districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
No fresh flood-related deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, keeping the death toll from this year’s floods at 104. Floodwaters continued to affect 14 revenue circles and 170 villages across Golaghat, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Dhemaji and Jorhat.
Nagaon remained the worst-affected district, with 32,132 people impacted, followed by Jorhat with 7,426 and Sivasagar with 5,676. The affected population has declined from around 62,000 reported on Saturday, although the number of flood-hit districts remained unchanged.
The administration is currently operating 14 relief camps, providing shelter to 1,731 displaced people. Eight relief distribution centres are also functioning in the affected areas.
According to the ASDMA bulletin, 3,628.17 hectares of cropland remain submerged, while 18,474 animals have been affected by the floods. Several infrastructure facilities, including roads, have also suffered damage across different parts of the state.
