Seven more deaths were reported from Sivasagar as floods continue to affect seven districts, with over 45,000 hectares of cropland remaining submerged
Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam remained critical as the death toll climbed to 75 after seven more flood-related deaths were reported in Sivasagar district over the past 24 hours, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The latest flood bulletin said seven districts, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan, continue to remain affected. Although the number of flood-hit districts has declined, normal life remains disrupted in several areas.
Official figures showed that 3,32,639 people have been affected, with 622 villages across 21 revenue circles still inundated. Thousands of residents continue to face displacement, damaged homes and disrupted livelihoods.
The ASDMA said there was no urban flooding reported anywhere in the state. Floodwaters have also submerged nearly 45,341.98 hectares of cropland, dealing a major blow to the agriculture sector and farming communities.
District administrations are continuing rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations across the affected areas. Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored while efforts to restore essential services and support affected families remain underway.
