Five relief distribution centres are operating in Kamrup (Metropolitan), where 300 people have been evacuated and nearly 6,800 have received relief assistance
Guwahati: The overall death toll from this year’s floods in Assam has risen to 89, while urban flooding continues to affect around 7,000 people in Kamrup (Metropolitan), according to the latest Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) report issued on Tuesday evening.
The report said urban flooding is currently limited to Kamrup (Metropolitan), with three revenue circles: Sonapur, Guwahati and Dispur and 11 villages/localities remaining inundated. Of the 7,000 affected people, 4,800 are men, 2,030 women and 170 children.
Authorities have opened five relief distribution centres, though no relief camps are currently operational. A total of 6,790 people have received assistance outside camps through the relief distribution network.
The report said no deaths or missing persons have been recorded due to the ongoing urban flooding. It also noted that there has been no reported damage to houses, livestock, roads or bridges in the affected areas.
Rescue operations are being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Defence volunteers, DDRF and the local administration. So far, 300 people have been evacuated using five rescue boats.
Relief materials distributed include 12,000 litres of mineral water, 12,000 biscuit packets, 5,000 bread packets, 30,000 candles and 250 tarpaulins as authorities continue monitoring the situation.
