Over 11,000 people remain in relief Camps as the authorities continue rehabilitation efforts, while the Dhansiri (South) River at Numaigarh is still flowing above the danger level
Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam showed further improvement, though the death toll from this year’s floods remained unchanged at 87, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS).
The number of affected people has declined to 1,28,071, spread across 380 villages in 24 revenue circles covering seven districts: Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Biswanath, Jorhat and Lakhimpur.
Sivasagar remains the worst-affected district with 55,200 affected people, followed by Charaideo (34,050), Jorhat (20,209), Golaghat (10,201) and Dhemaji (8,333). Smaller numbers of affected residents were also reported from Lakhimpur and Biswanath.
Floodwaters continue to affect 14,230.15 hectares of agricultural land, with Charaideo reporting the highest crop damage.
Relief operations remain underway, with the government operating 55 relief camps and 17 relief distribution centres, sheltering 11,066 people. The camps currently house 4,835 men, 4,738 women, 1,462 children, 24 pregnant or lactating women, and seven persons with disabilities.
The bulletin said the Dhansiri (South) River at Numaligarh in Golaghat district continues to flow above the danger level, though no river is currently above its highest flood level. District administrations are continuing relief, rehabilitation and damage assessment across the affected areas.
