Assam Expands Global Connectivity as IndiGo Launches Guwahati-Bangkok Flights

IndiGo has launched direct Guwahati-Bangkok flights, strengthening Assam’s international connectivity and supporting the Northeast’s links with Southeast Asia

Guwahati: Assam’s international air connectivity received a boost on October 27 with the launch of IndiGo’s direct flight service between Guwahati and Bangkok, establishing a non-stop link between the Northeast and Thailand’s capital.

The inauguration was held at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, where the occasion was marked by a ceremonial lamp lighting and the handover of boarding passes. Airport officials, airline representatives and other stakeholders attended the event.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the launch, describing the service as a step towards expanding international connectivity and strengthening Guwahati’s position as a travel and tourism hub.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said the new route aligned with India’s broader Act East policy, which aims to deepen the country’s engagement with Southeast Asian nations.

The direct connection is expected to make travel to Bangkok more convenient for passengers from Assam and other northeastern states. Bangkok serves as a major destination for tourism, business and onward international travel.

The launch also reinforces efforts to position Guwahati as a regional gateway linking the Northeast with Southeast Asia, potentially creating fresh opportunities for tourism, trade and people-to-people exchanges.
