The Cabinet cleared a new compressed biogas policy, notified two reserve forests, eased legal metrology compliance and approved reforms for veterinary recruitment
Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet approved the Assam Compressed Biogas (CBG) Policy, 2026, paving the way for a structured framework to promote clean energy and accelerate investment in the state’s compressed biogas sector.
Under the policy, the Commissioner of Industries and Commerce will serve as the nodal agency for a single-window clearance mechanism to ensure time-bound execution of CBG projects. The government will also provide a comprehensive support and incentive framework based on six key pillars to encourage investment and expand clean energy infrastructure.
The Cabinet also approved the notification of the Rakhyasini Proposed Reserve Forest and the Tharko Nalbari Proposed Reserve Forest in Goalpara district as reserve forests, strengthening environmental conservation and forest protection efforts.
In another decision, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Assam Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2026, allowing manufacturers to self-certify and enabling third-party certification of weighing and measuring instruments to reduce compliance burdens.
The Cabinet further cleared amendments to the Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Subordinate Service Rules, 2026, introducing transparent and merit-based recruitment norms and uniform service conditions for veterinary field assistants.
