Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says August will see the rollout of multiple welfare initiatives, including Orunodoi, Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu applications and subsidised ration benefits
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that several flagship welfare schemes will gather momentum in August, including the resumption of Aadhaar-seeded Orunodoi payments, financial assistance for students and the rollout of a subsidised ration scheme.
Following a video conference with district commissioners, the Chief Minister said 37.1 lakh women would receive Aadhaar-seeded Orunodoi transfers from August 1. Eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs 1,250, while women in flood-affected areas will be provided Rs 2,500. He added that Orunodoi Sahayaks would assist beneficiaries in accessing the scheme.
The Chief Minister also announced that application forms for the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes would be distributed during the first week of August. The government aims to provide over Rs 300 crore in financial assistance to more than five lakh students in October.
From August 10, the state will resume its subsidised ration scheme under which beneficiaries will receive free ration along with 1 kg of masur dal and 1 kg of sugar for Rs 100 per ration card. The initiative is expected to benefit more than 70 lakh people.
The Chief Minister directed district administrations to ensure maximum coverage and smooth implementation of the schemes, saying, “August will be a special month for Assam as several welfare programmes to serve our people will gain a new momentum.”
