BJP leader says Himanta Biswa Sarma government is focusing on poverty reduction, inflation control and healthcare reforms

Guwahati: Assam BJP leader Bhupen Bora on Monday said the state government has prepared a long-term development roadmap aimed at transforming Assam into a Rs 10 lakh crore economy within the next few years.
Speaking to reporters after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s reply to the Governor’s address in the Assembly, Bora said the government had outlined a “clear and practical vision” for economic growth, welfare expansion and infrastructure development.
“We are confident that under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam will achieve the target of becoming a Rs 10 lakh crore economy by 2028-29,” Bora said.
He further stated that the government is also working to reduce poverty levels significantly. According to Bora, the chief minister expressed hope that the Below Poverty Line (BPL) population in Assam could be brought down from the current 17 per cent to nearly 1 or 2 per cent in the coming years.
Highlighting healthcare priorities, Bora said the government is focusing on improving maternal health indicators across the state. He noted that Assam’s maternal mortality ratio currently stands at 256 per one lakh live births and said efforts are underway to reduce the figure substantially.
On rising fuel and commodity prices, Bora said the government remains concerned about inflation and is examining ways to cut expenditure in different sectors to minimise pressure on the public.
