A bus travelling from Guwahati to Lakhimpur overturned on a damaged stretch of highway, renewing concerns over road safety in Khetri
Khetri: A passenger bus overturned on National Highway 27 at Khetri on Tuesday morning after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, leaving several passengers with narrow escapes.
The bus was travelling from Guwahati towards Lakhimpur when it met with the accident on a reportedly damaged stretch of the highway. The vehicle veered out of control before overturning on the road, triggering panic among passengers.
The incident came a day after a fatal crash at Khetri-Nalgedera on August 30, in which a passenger-carrying commercial vehicle collided head-on with a truck, killing six people and injuring three others.
The commercial vehicle, bearing registration number AS 01 HC 0716, was reportedly travelling towards Guwahati when it crossed the highway divider and collided with the oncoming truck. The injured were shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The latest accident has renewed concerns over damaged stretches of NH-27 and road safety in the Khetri area. Details regarding injuries in Tuesday’s accident are yet to be confirmed.
