Another Blow to Exam Integrity: Maharashtra TET Postponed After Alleged Paper Leak

Police uncovered an alleged question paper leak racket during a raid in Bhiwandi, prompting authorities to postpone the statewide teacher eligibility examination

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), Pune, has postponed the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) after an alleged question paper leak racket was uncovered just a day before the examination was scheduled to be held across the state.

The decision followed an early morning raid by the Bhiwandi Police at a suspected examination centre, where several individuals were allegedly found in possession of confidential examination material. Senior MSCE officials were immediately called to verify the seized documents. Preliminary verification reportedly confirmed that multiple questions matched the actual TET question paper.

Following the discovery, a criminal case was registered at the Bhiwandi Police Station, and an investigation has been launched to determine the extent of the alleged leak.

The Maharashtra TET was scheduled to be conducted at 1,028 examination centres across the state. Paper 1 was slated for 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, while Paper 2 was scheduled from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm in pen-and-paper mode using OMR sheets.

In an official notification, the MSCE said the examination had been postponed ensuring transparency and to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the alleged racket. The council added that a revised examination date would be announced after the police inquiry is completed.

The council noted that enhanced security measures had already been introduced in view of recent examination-related controversies across the country. However, despite those precautions, authorities decided to defer the examination, stating that maintaining the integrity and fairness of the recruitment process remained the highest priority.
