New LPMS platform cuts paperwork by up to 90%, boosts inter-agency coordination, and aims to transform land ports into technology-driven trade and security hubs, including key gateways in the Northeast
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday unveiled the Land Port Management System (LPMS), branded as ‘Vinimay’, a digital platform designed to modernise operations across India’s land ports and strengthen border trade infrastructure.
Launching the system in New Delhi, Shah said the initiative advances Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of turning border regions into “robust arteries of trade and commerce” while enhancing security and international connectivity.
“The new system will turn our land ports into the meeting points of border trade and security,” Shah said, adding that the platform integrates digital and AI-driven technologies to facilitate the seamless movement of cargo, vehicles and passengers.
The LPMS brings customs, immigration, border guarding forces and other stakeholders onto a single interface, enabling real-time information sharing. The platform is linked with major national systems, including ICEGATE, CBIC, DGFT, BSF, UIDAI and ULIP, significantly improving coordination.
According to Shah, the system has reduced paperwork by nearly 90 per cent and cut processing time by 40 to 60 per cent through a single-window digital framework.
Highlighting the growth of border commerce, Shah noted that trade through land ports has increased from Rs 5,000 crore in 2014 to Rs 83,000 crore, a more than 16-fold rise over the past decade.
India currently operates 15 land ports, while 11 additional facilities are planned over the next three years, further strengthening connectivity with neighbouring countries and boosting economic activity in border regions, including the Northeast.
