Abhishek smashed 108 off 34 balls as India posted 221/7 before bowling Afghanistan out for 94 to complete a 127-run victory
New Delhi: Abhishek Sharma produced a breathtaking record-breaking century as India completed a 3-0 T20I series sweep over Afghanistan with a 127-run victory in the third match at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.
The left-handed opener reached his hundred in just 30 balls, becoming the fastest Indian batter to score a T20I century and the fastest batter from a full-member nation to achieve the feat. He eventually fell for 108 off 34 deliveries, with nine fours and 11 sixes.
Abhishek’s assault helped India race to 221/7, with Sanju Samson contributing a 35-ball 50. India also recorded 100 runs in the powerplay, setting up a daunting chase for Afghanistan.
Afghanistan struggled in reply and were bowled out for 94 in 14.1 overs. Ravi Bishnoi and Nitish Kumar Reddy claimed three wickets each, while Axar Patel took two as India completed a 127-run win.
Abhishek’s century was his third in T20Is and the third-fastest in the format overall, behind centuries by Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan and Turkey’s Muhammad Fahad. He was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
India now turn their attention to the Asian Games in Japan, while Afghanistan will field a largely different squad for the tournament.
