Prime Minister to inaugurate key infrastructure projects and address party workers in Assam

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Guwahati on February 14, marking a significant political and developmental milestone for the state ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
According to the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister’s visit will formally signal the beginning of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election campaign in Assam. As part of the schedule, Modi will take part in a booth-level workers’ convention at Khanapara, aimed at energising grassroots party workers and strengthening organisational preparedness.
The visit will also focus heavily on infrastructure and urban development. Prime Minister Modi is set to inaugurate the much-awaited bridge connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati, a project expected to ease traffic congestion and improve regional connectivity. In addition, he will inaugurate the new campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Guwahati, reinforcing Assam’s growing role as a hub for higher education in the Northeast.
Further highlighting the government’s push for sustainable urban mobility, the Prime Minister will flag off 100 new electric buses, a move aligned with the Centre’s emphasis on clean energy and environmentally responsible transport systems.
Chief Minister Sarma also indicated that a public rally by the Prime Minister may be held in Dibrugarh, extending the outreach beyond Guwahati and underlining Upper Assam’s strategic importance in both governance and electoral politics. The visit is expected to blend political mobilisation with major development initiatives, reflecting the BJP-led government’s twin focus on infrastructure growth and electoral preparedness in Assam.
