Garima Garg Submits Memorandum to PM Modi Seeking Swift Justice for Zubeen Garg

Family seeks Special Court, fast-tracked trial and strict legal action to ensure justice and accountability

Guwahati: Garima Saikia Garg has approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking the Centre’s intervention to ensure a fair, transparent and time-bound judicial process in the case related to the death of noted Assamese cultural figure Zubeen Garg.

This intention has been made known through a memorandum which has been presented on the eve of the country’s 77th Republic Day. This has been shared with everyone through a social media post made by Garima, who indicated that the family remains committed to knowing the truth and delivering the toughest punishment on those responsible.

Referring to Zubeen Garg as Assam’s ‘beloved son,’ she observed that, as a family, her pursuit of justice was guided by her faith in constitutional values and the due enforcement of constitutional values in a country that prides itself on having a robust justice delivery system.

Further, in the representation, it has pleaded before the court that a special court be constituted to hear its case in accordance with the charge sheet filed by the Assam Police. The intention, as has been mentioned in their memorandum, is to avoid procedural delays.

Appropriate judicial and administrative measures have been sought to expedite the proceedings so that the cause of justice is served without any delay or compromise. It has also called for the appointment of more senior and experienced prosecutors, if needed, to assist the prosecution in conducting a speedy trial.

The family has further prayed for the denial of bail to any of the accused until the conclusion of the case, noting the gravity of the case and maintaining public confidence in the trial process. Additionally, the memorandum calls for active diplomatic and legal engagement with Singapore to closely monitor the proceedings in the Coroner’s Court related to the case.

Describing themselves as a grieving family but also responsible citizens, Garima said they have placed their trust in the Prime Minister’s office to address the matter with urgency, fairness and transparency.
