Hundreds of Women Join Cleanliness Drive in Jamugurihat Ahead of Sankardeva Sangha’s Annual Meet

Jyoti–Bishnu Kshetra echoed with Harinaam as women across different districts joined cleanliness drive on Sunday ahead of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha’s 95th Conference

Jamugurihat: Jamugurihat witnessed a wave of devotion and collective effort as preparations gathered pace for the 95th annual state conference of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, scheduled to be held on February 6, 7 and 8 at the Jyoti–Bishnu Kshetra in Chaibari–Dholaibil area.

With the aim of ensuring the success of the grand religious and cultural event, as many as 35 sub-committees have already begun working actively in their respective areas. As part of these preparations, a large-scale cleanliness drive was organised on Sunday at the Jyoti–Bishnu premises.

Hundreds of women devotees turned up early in the day, carrying sickles in their hands, and participated in clearing grass and shrubs from the vast field. The entire area resonated with Harinaam as the women sang devotional songs while cutting hay, creating an atmosphere filled with spiritual fervour.

Witnesses said the scene was reminiscent of a festive devotional gathering, as women devotees were seen singing, dancing and immersing themselves in bhakti. The continuous chanting of Harinam transformed the Jyoti–Bishnu Kshetra into what many described as a “Vaikuntha-like” environment.

During the hay-cutting activity, some women were also heard singing popular devotional songs by singer Zubeen Garg, remembering the artist with emotion. The blend of devotion, music and collective labour added a unique charm to the event.

After completing the cleanliness work, the women sat together in the open field and shared a community meal, reflecting the spirit of unity and joy associated with the Sangha’s traditions.

Organisers informed that women devotees from several districts, including Sonitpur, Udalguri and Biswanath, participated enthusiastically in the drive. They said such collective efforts would continue in the coming days as the conference dates draw closer.

Speaking on the occasion, members of the reception committee expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming response and said the participation of women devotees has given fresh momentum to the preparations.

The 95th state conference of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha is expected to draw thousands of devotees from across Assam and neighbouring regions, making Jamugurihat a major centre of religious and cultural activity in early February.
