Nagaon Bypoll: Polling Teams Fan Out Across 2,307 Stations Ahead of October 6 Vote

Polling teams depart across Nagaon and Morigaon as 11,535 personnel prepare for voting at 2,307 stations in the October 6 Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll

Nagaon: Polling teams on Monday began moving out from designated distribution centres in Nagaon and Morigaon districts as Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency made its final preparations for Tuesday’s by-election.

A total of 11,535 personnel have been deployed for polling duties across 2,307 stations, with 9,228 serving as polling and presiding officers and 2,307 deployed for security.

Teams for Raha and Nagaon-Batadroba left from Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys’ School, while those for Rupohihat, Samaguri and Dhing departed from Dawson Higher Secondary Multi-Purpose School. Teams covering Morigaon, Jagiroad and Laharighat were dispatched from Morigaon College.

Authorities have identified 624 polling stations as sensitive. In Nagaon district, 54 micro-observers will monitor such stations, while 203 sector officers and 53 zonal officers will oversee polling arrangements on the ground.

The constituency has 19,02,009 registered voters, including 9,58,595 men, 9,43,364 women and 50 third-gender voters. Fifteen candidates are in the fray, with BJP’s Devashish Sharma, Congress’ Sibamoni Bora and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal among the key contenders.

The administration has also arranged transport, food and other logistical support for polling teams, including 584 vehicles in Nagaon district. Polling will be held on October 6, with counting scheduled for October 9.
