“Come With Us”: CJP Challenges AASU Over Government School Campaign

CJP challenges AASU to join its school inspections after the student body questions the campaign

Guwahati: A campaign to inspect Assam’s government schools has triggered a war of words between the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), with CJP challenging the student body to see the situation on the ground.

CJP launched its “School Thik Karo” campaign to visit government schools, examine infrastructure and facilities, and interact with students and teachers. The organisation says the initiative is aimed at documenting shortcomings in public education and drawing attention to them.

AASU general secretary Samiran Phukan questioned the purpose of the visits, alleging that such activities could create tension in the state. He also raised concerns over alleged attempts to disturb peace in Assam.

CJP hit back, saying it was disappointed by AASU’s response and recalling the student body’s historic role in the Assam Movement. It invited AASU representatives to accompany its members to schools, listen to students and teachers and jointly question the government. “Politics can wait. Assam’s students cannot,” CJP said on X.

CJP also questioned whether AASU’s remarks were in keeping with the role of an independent student organisation. The exchange has now put Assam’s government school infrastructure at the centre of the dispute.
