Guwahati: Assamese singer and politician Simanta Shekhar has resigned as Chairman of the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation and stepped down from the BJP’s Assam state executive committee and primary membership.
In a statement, Shekhar said he had submitted his resignation letters to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state BJP president. The state government’s official Film Finance Corporation website continues to list him as chairman.
Shekhar said his decision was taken entirely for personal reasons and clarified that it was not prompted by any dissatisfaction with the BJP’s ideology, policies or any individual within the party. He also said he would not join or associate himself with any political party in the future.
While announcing his exit, Shekhar extended his best wishes to BJP leaders, workers and supporters and wished the party success in its future activities. He also expressed his good wishes to the Chief Minister, saying he hoped Assam would continue on the path of development and progress.
Shekhar concluded that his love, respect and commitment towards Assam and the Assamese community would remain unchanged.
