Over 5.36 lakh hearings have been completed in Meghalaya, with the CEO assuring that no voter will be deleted without due process
Shillong: More than 82 per cent of hearings under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 have been completed in Meghalaya, with 542 electors found ineligible so far, Chief Electoral Officer Dr B D R Tiwari said on Tuesday.
The update came during a virtual review meeting with Deputy Commissioners, District Election Officers, EROs, AEROs and representatives of recognised political parties.
Of the 21.69 lakh electors in the Draft Electoral Roll, notices were generated for 6,51,735 cases. While 6,46,397 notices have been delivered, 5,190 remain pending. A total of 5,36,468 hearings, or 82.31 per cent of the notices generated, have been completed.
Tiwari stressed that receiving a notice does not mean automatic deletion, assuring that no voter will be removed without following due procedure and providing an opportunity for a hearing.
The notices include 2,22,786 “No Mapping” cases and 4,28,949 mapping discrepancies. The state has received 17,061 claims and objections, including 9,343 Form 6 applications for inclusion.
Eligible voters missing from the draft roll have been urged to file Form 6 by September 18. The final electoral roll will be published on October 21.
