Tawang: A landslide has blocked the Zemithang-Tawang road near Shakti village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, disrupting connectivity in the remote border region.
The blockage occurred along the road connecting Zemithang with Tawang, close to the India-China border. Details regarding the extent of the landslide, impact on vehicular movement and restoration efforts were not immediately available.
Shakti is a remote border village in the Zemithang circle and is home to local communities as well as yak-grazing communities. The area lies in a strategically sensitive frontier region where road connectivity is important for both residents and security forces.
The Indian Army regularly conducts medical and civic action camps in Shakti and nearby areas, providing healthcare and other assistance to residents and pastoral communities.
Connectivity along the Tawang frontier is also crucial for logistical movement. Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have previously disrupted key roads in the region, with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) undertaking clearance and restoration operations.
Further updates on the clearance of the affected stretch and restoration of normal traffic movement are awaited.
