Jayanta Mallabaruah asks 126 constituency-level Sarothis to help eligible women overcome payment, Aadhaar and KYC-related hurdles
Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah has asked Orunodoi Sarothis to ensure that eligible women do not face hurdles in accessing benefits under the state’s flagship welfare scheme.
Addressing a training programme for 126 Sarothis, representing each Legislative Assembly Constituency, Mallabaruah said their responsibility extended beyond routine administrative work. He described them as an important link between beneficiaries and the government and stressed the need for impartiality while identifying and assisting deserving recipients.
The training focused on resolving issues including delayed payments, Aadhaar deactivation, pending KYC updates and limited awareness among beneficiaries. Mallabaruah said Orunodoi, which initially provided Rs 830 to around 16–17 lakh women, has expanded to nearly 40 lakh beneficiaries, with each recipient now receiving Rs 1,250 every month.
The Minister urged the Sarothis to work with commitment and ensure that genuine beneficiaries receive their entitlements without unnecessary obstacles. He also said those unable to take up the responsibility should step aside rather than compromise the delivery of the scheme.
