Golaghat and Sivasagar remain among the worst-hit districts as rescue and relief operations continue
Guwahati: Assam’s flood situation remains critical, with flooding affecting 10 districts, 28 revenue circles, and 456 villages, according to the latest Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) report. The state’s flood death toll has risen to 107.
Around 1,37,590 people have been affected, while 11,933.46 hectares of cropland remain submerged. Golaghat is the worst affected district, with 68,239 people impacted, followed by Sivasagar with 39,495 and Jorhat with 16,259.
The Central Water Commission said the Dhansiri (South) is flowing above the danger level at Golaghat and Numaligarh, while the Kushiyara remains above the danger mark at Sribhumi.
Flooding has forced thousands into relief camps. The state currently has 52 relief camps and 73 distribution centres, with around 8,000 people taking shelter. Sivasagar has 19 relief camps housing 4,649 people, while Golaghat has 82 relief camps and distribution centres.
Rescue operations are underway with 59 medical teams and 10 boats deployed. In Jorhat, 107 people have been evacuated by boat. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and carry out relief, rescue and medical operations across affected areas.
