The state government has announced land revenue waivers, free electricity and faster insurance settlements for flood-hit families
Guwahati: Assam’s flood death toll has risen to 85, even as the overall flood situation continues to improve, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The bulletin said 1,36,203 people remain affected across 335 villages under 21 revenue circles in Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Dhemaji districts. It also reported three flood-related deaths in Sivasagar, while two people remain missing. Crops spread across 15,422 hectares of agricultural land have been damaged, though no incidents of urban flooding were reported.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a series of relief measures for flood-hit families. Residents of Sivasagar and Charaideo will receive a one-year exemption from land revenue from April 1, 2026.
The government has also waived July electricity bills for households in the two districts consuming up to 300 units of power. The cost will be borne by the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while prepaid smart meter users will receive a government recharge of up to 300 units.
The Chief Minister further said insurance companies would adopt a simplified and faster claims process for flood-affected residents of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat to ensure quicker compensation.
