An 84-metre bridge over the Kumey River was washed away in Kra Daadi district, isolating eight villages as floods and landslides continue to batter Arunachal Pradesh, affecting over 97,000 people across the state
Itanagar: Eight villages in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kra Daadi district have been cut off from the rest of the state after flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall washed away an 84-metre bridge over the Kumey River, officials said on Tuesday, July 14.
The bridge, a crucial arterial link connecting the remote villages, was swept away on Monday, disrupting transport and hampering the movement of people, emergency services and essential supplies.
The incident comes amid widespread rain-induced floods and landslides that have claimed seven lives and left 29 others injured across Arunachal Pradesh. According to official estimates, at least 97,182 people in 425 villages spread across all 26 districts have been affected, with extensive damage reported to agricultural land, homes and public infrastructure.
Pipsorang Sub-Divisional Officer Yumlam Pulu and Tali East Zilla Parishad member Rughu Tama visited the affected areas to assess the damage. Pulu said more than 20 houses along the Kumey River had also been destroyed in the floods and urged residents to avoid venturing near the swollen river and strictly follow safety advisories.
Tama appealed to the state government to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation assistance to affected families and sought the early reconstruction of the washed-away bridge to restore connectivity and ensure the uninterrupted supply of relief materials to the isolated villages.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rainfall persists across several parts of the state.
