The Centre told the Delhi High Court that the account had been restricted during the sensitive period surrounding the NEET re-examination to prevent possible confusion among students, but agreed the concerns no longer persisted after the exam concluded
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has directed the restoration of the X (formerly Twitter) account of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), bringing relief to the youth-led satirical movement whose account had been withheld earlier this year over concerns linked to the NEET examination controversy.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma passed the order after the Centre informed the court that the account had been restricted during the sensitive period surrounding the NEET re-examination. Appearing for the government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that certain posts shared by the account could have caused confusion and unrest among students and parents ahead of the re-test.
With the NEET re-examination concluding on June 21, the Centre stated that the circumstances leading to the restriction no longer existed. Taking note of the submission, the High Court ordered the immediate restoration of the account.
The Cockroach Janta Party, which began as a satirical online initiative, gained significant attention during the NEET paper leak controversy and the subsequent cancellation of the original examination. Its popularity among students grew rapidly before its X account was withheld in India in May.
Following the suspension, the group launched an alternative account titled “Cockroach Is Back” to continue engaging with supporters.
In recent weeks, the organisation has participated in student protests demanding accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak, including demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, while backing calls for greater transparency and reforms in the examination system.
