Manmao-Changlang Highway Collapses at Multiple Points: Disrupting Connectivity in Arunachal

Continuous rainfall has damaged key road infrastructure, disrupting transport and raising concerns over further landslides across the state

Itanagar: Relentless monsoon rains have caused significant damage in Arunachal Pradesh, with sections of the crucial Manmao-Changlang highway collapsing at multiple locations in Changlang district, disrupting connectivity and affecting transportation in the region.

Officials said the road cave-ins occurred after days of intense rainfall triggered landslides, flash floods and severe soil erosion. Swollen streams and continuous runoff weakened road embankments, causing portions of the highway to give way and making the route unsafe for vehicular movement.

The damaged highway serves as a vital link for residents and communities in the district. The disruption has affected the movement of people, essential supplies and emergency services, raising concerns about accessibility if restoration work is delayed.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid the affected stretch while engineers assess the extent of the damage. District officials and disaster management teams have been deployed to monitor the situation and coordinate restoration efforts.

The latest incident adds to the growing impact of the monsoon across Arunachal Pradesh, where heavy rainfall has triggered landslides and flooding in several districts. Multiple roads and highways have been damaged or blocked, affecting connectivity to remote areas.

Residents have expressed concern over recurring road failures during the monsoon season, noting that the Manmao-Changlang route is a critical lifeline for trade, travel and access to essential services.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across parts of the state in the coming days. Authorities have urged people living near rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant as the risk of further flooding and landslides remains high.
