Project Brahmank officers, GREF personnel and their families donated food, clothes, blankets and other essentials for flood-affected communities
Itanagar: Amid widespread flooding across Assam, personnel of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have launched a voluntary relief initiative to support families affected by the deluge.
The initiative was organised by the Headquarters Chief Engineer (Project) Brahmank of the BRO under Chief Engineer Pankaj Goyal. Officers, General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) personnel and their families contributed funds and essential items for flood-affected communities.
The donated materials included rice, food supplies, clothes, footwear, blankets and other daily-use essentials. The relief materials were collected and consolidated at the BRO’s headquarters in Pasighat before being dispatched to Dibrugarh on August 4.
The consignment was subsequently handed over to the Rotary Club of Dibrugarh for distribution among families affected by the floods. Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Bajali are among the districts facing significant flood impacts, with villages inundated and damage reported to roads, embankments and agricultural land.
The Dikhow and Dhansiri (South) rivers have also crossed danger levels in several areas, while flooding has disrupted drinking water supply, electricity, healthcare and transport services.
The BRO said the relief initiative reflects its commitment to “service beyond duty”, extending its support beyond its core role of constructing and maintaining roads, bridges and other infrastructure in difficult and remote terrain.
