The move comes amid major infrastructure projects, including the Amulapatty Flyover and Mancotta Road ROB, with authorities aiming to ease congestion and improve road safety

Dibrugarh: In a major traffic management measure, the Dibrugarh district administration has directed that all buses and travellers operate exclusively from the Murlidhar Jalan Bus Terminus (MJBT) from June 19, prohibiting their entry beyond the terminus. School and college buses, however, have been exempted.
The decision comes as the city prepares for the construction of the Amulapatty Flyover and continues work on the Mancotta Road Railway Over Bridge (ROB), both of which are expected to place additional pressure on Dibrugarh’s road network.
According to the administration, the Public Works Roads Department (PWRD) warned that heavy vehicle movement during the flyover’s construction could worsen congestion and increase accident risks. Officials also noted that the proposed service roads are designed primarily for light vehicles and two-wheelers.
The matter was discussed at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meeting held on June 10, where members unanimously backed regulating bus operations in the interest of public safety.
Authorities further observed that existing bus stops along the Old NH-37 corridor lack adequate parking and terminal infrastructure, contributing to traffic bottlenecks.
A joint team comprising the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, District Transport Office, and Traffic Police has been tasked with ensuring a smooth transition. The Traffic Police will soon issue revised route maps and advisories, while feeder transport services will connect passengers to and from MJBT.
Violations of the order will attract action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
