VB-G RAM G to take effect from July 1, 2026, combining rural job creation with village infrastructure and asset development

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has approved the implementation framework for the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G], with the scheme set to be rolled out across the state from July 1, 2026.
Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the programme will provide 125 days of guaranteed wage employment to every rural household, replacing the earlier framework that offered 90 days of work. “The provisions of the VB-G RAM Act will be fully implemented from July 1 onwards,” the Chief Minister said.
The state government has earmarked Rs 2,000 crore for the scheme during the current financial year. According to the Chief Minister, each panchayat is expected to receive an average allocation of Rs 1 crore, subject to local requirements and size.
Unlike previous employment-focused programmes, the new initiative will also prioritise the creation of durable community assets. “Apart from generating employment, the scheme will ensure long-term asset creation in villages,” the Chief Minister said.
The government plans to channel funds towards infrastructure projects such as school boundary walls, crematoriums, village roads and other community facilities, ensuring that public spending contributes to lasting development.
Officials said detailed operational guidelines will be issued to panchayats ahead of the launch to facilitate effective implementation and targeted grassroots development.
