A total of 2% increase to take effect from July; Himanta Biswa Sarma says government remains committed to employee and pensioner welfare

Guwahati: In a major boost for state government employees and pensioners, the Assam Cabinet approved a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR), taking the rate from 58 per cent to 60 per cent.
Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the revised rates will come into effect from July 2026, benefiting more than eight lakh serving employees and retired government personnel across the state.
Sharing the update, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce and pensioners.
“Our employees and pensioners are valued partners in Assam’s growth story. To further support them, the Assam Cabinet has approved a 2% increase in DA and DR, taking it from 58% to 60% from this July. We remain committed to their welfare and wellbeing,” the Chief Minister stated.
The latest revision is expected to provide additional financial support to beneficiaries amid rising household and living expenses. Officials said the enhanced allowance and relief amounts will be reflected in payments from next month.
Moreover, the move underscores the state government’s continued focus on strengthening employee welfare and social security measures. By approving the increase, the administration aims to offer greater financial stability to thousands of families while recognising the contribution of employees and pensioners to Assam’s development.
With the decision now cleared by the Cabinet, the revised DA and DR structure will be implemented across all eligible categories from July onwards.
