Himanta Biswa Sarma retains Home, PWD and Power portfolios, while 16 ministers are tasked with overseeing districts to strengthen governance and fast-track development projects

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has completed the distribution of ministerial portfolios and guardian district responsibilities following the recent expansion of the state Cabinet, outlining the government’s administrative roadmap for the coming years.
According to the notification approved by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the Chief Minister will continue to oversee crucial departments including Home & Political, Power, Public Works (Roads and Buildings), and Information & Public Relations, besides handling portfolios not assigned to other ministers.
Among the key allocations, Jayanta Mallabaruah received Finance, Environment & Forest, and Mines & Minerals, while Ashok Singhal retained Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education. Ranoj Pegu was entrusted with School and Higher Education, whereas Pijush Hazarika will head Agriculture, Irrigation and Parliamentary Affairs.
Simultaneously, the Chief Minister assigned guardian districts to 16 ministers to improve coordination between the state government and local administrations. Rameswar Teli will oversee Tinsukia and Jorhat, Atul Bora has been assigned Kamrup Metro and Dhemaji, while Pijush Hazarika will monitor development works in Nagaon, Hojai, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
Other notable assignments include Ranoj Pegu for Biswanath and Golaghat, Jayanta Mallabaruah for Tamulpur and Goalpara, and Susanta Borgohain for Majuli and Dibrugarh.
Sharing the announcement, the Chief Minister said he was confident the ministers would work with dedication to accelerate Assam’s growth and ensure effective implementation of welfare and infrastructure initiatives across the state.
