From Meme to Movement: CJP Draws Hundreds to Jantar Mantar in Youth-Led Protest

Founded by Abhijeet Dipke as a satirical response to a controversial remark on unemployed youth, the Cockroach Janta Party held its first major offline demonstration on June 6, demanding accountability over exam irregularities and education-related concerns

New Delhi: What began as an internet satire transformed into a major youth-led public demonstration on Saturday as supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, turning online frustration into a visible call for accountability.

Led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old Boston University graduate, the movement drew students, parents, job aspirants and young professionals from across the country. Protesters raised concerns over alleged examination irregularities, recruitment controversies and the broader state of the education system.

Addressing supporters, Dipke said, “You may be able to delete our posts, but you cannot erase us from this space.” He further added, “The youth and students of this country have not sold themselves.”

The demonstration remained peaceful despite heavy security deployment across the capital. Delhi Police confirmed that six individuals were taken into preventive custody to avoid potential clashes between opposing groups.

The protest also received support from several public figures and political leaders. Education activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the gathering and pledged solidarity with the movement, while opposition leaders echoed demands for greater accountability in handling examination-related controversies.

Although the event centred on education issues, it also reflected a wider sentiment among India’s youth. What started as a satirical online campaign has evolved into a platform channeling concerns about jobs, opportunities and institutional trust, making the Cockroach Janta Party one of the most talked-about grassroots movements of 2026.
