The 2.8-km-long flyover linking Cycle Factory junction and Lalganesh Bazar was completed in 26 months at a cost of over Rs 376 crore

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed Syama Prasad Mookerjee Flyover in Guwahati, describing the project as both a major infrastructure boost and a tribute to a leader who played a key role in preserving Assam’s place within India during Partition.
Built at a cost of more than Rs 376 crore, the 2.8-km-long three-lane flyover connects the Cycle Factory junction to Lalganesh Bazar, providing a seamless link between Arya Nagar and NH-27. The project was completed in 26 months, ahead of the scheduled 30-month deadline.

The flyover has been equipped with a modern “BUG” structure, service roads, drainage systems, connecting roads and parking facilities aimed at easing traffic congestion along the busy Guwahati-Garbhanga corridor.
Speaking after the inauguration, the Chief Minister said the flyover was named after Syama Prasad Mookerjee in recognition of his contribution during the Partition era.
“Had leaders like Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Gopinath Bordoloi not resisted the plan, Assam might not have remained part of India,” the Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister further added that the structure symbolises not only development but also Assam’s historical and cultural identity.
