Governor Acharya Outlines NDA’s Five-Year Agenda as Opposition Walks Out of Assam Assembly

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya outlined the Assam government’s five-year vision as Congress and Raijor Dal MLAs walked out of the Assembly over inflation and public issues.

Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Friday presented the BJP-led government’s roadmap for the next five years during his first address to the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly, even as Opposition parties staged a walkout over inflation and governance concerns.

The disruption unfolded shortly after the Governor began his speech on the second day of the Assembly session. Congress legislators entered the Well of the House holding placards and raising slogans, demanding discussions on what they called “real public issues” instead of government achievements.

MLAs of Raijor Dal, led by Akhil Gogoi, also objected during the address before eventually walking out after submitting a written note to the Assembly.

Despite the protests, Governor Acharya said the NDA’s third consecutive term reflected public confidence in its governance model. “This mandate reflects the people’s endorsement of peace, economic stability and inclusive development pursued over the past ten years,” he stated.

The Governor further claimed that the government had achieved “substantial and historic” progress in restoring peace and stability across Assam.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity, Acharya urged citizens to adopt restraint in discretionary spending.

He also welcomed the proposed legislation on the Uniform Civil Code, expected to be introduced during the current session, saying the move would promote “social harmony, justice, gender equality and a progressive society.”
