Senior Congress leader says organisational review on May 10 will assess election performance and future leadership responsibilities

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora, on May 9, said the party high command would take an “appropriate decision” on leadership matters in Assam after conducting a detailed organisational review of the party’s performance in the Assembly election.
Speaking to reporters, Bora said the review process had already begun, describing the current discussions as only a preliminary exercise ahead of a larger meeting scheduled for May 10. He informed that district presidents, district in-charges and senior party leaders would participate in the main review session.
Amid speculation over the future role of Gaurav Gogoi within the state unit, Bora said the final call would rest entirely with the Congress leadership in Delhi.
“Whether Gaurav Gogoi wants to resign or not, the decision will ultimately be taken by the high command. They are closely observing the situation and will decide accordingly,” Bora stated.
He further revealed that a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting would soon be held in the presence of AICC observers to elect the leader of the party’s 19 MLAs in the Assam Assembly.
Highlighting the party’s collective decision-making structure, Bora said leadership within the Congress was not centred around one individual. “There may be one leader, but decisions are always taken collectively within the party,” he added.
The Congress managed to secure 19 seats in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, while the BJP-led NDA returned to power with a commanding majority.
