Bhabana Sarma clarifies the sequence of events, coercion in the past relationship; FIR filed, probe underway
Guwahati: Guwahati resident Bhabana Sarma has broken her silence over her recent disappearance, stating that she left home “voluntarily” on April 24 and that no third person was involved in her travel. She specifically clarified that no Rapido or Uber driver played any role in the incident.
In a detailed social media statement, Sarma outlined her movement from Jalukbari to Paltanbazar before heading to Shillong, where she stayed alone in a hotel, noting that “CCTV footage can verify” her account.
Addressing the distress message she had earlier sent to her family, Sarma admitted it was “not true.” She further claims that she was going through a period of extreme emotional strain. She also revealed that her family was unaware of her mental health struggles, adding that she had not shared her depression with them. During this time, she said she felt anxious and confused and had even admitted that she had briefly contemplated self-harm before choosing to return home.
She further made serious allegations about her relationship, claiming she faced sustained threats from an individual identified as Nihar Jyoti Sarma. According to her, she was warned that private photos and videos would be leaked if she attempted to end the relationship.
Sarma confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged and that she is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. At the same time, she urged the public to avoid speculation, saying, “Please do not spread rumours.” She also encouraged others facing similar situations to seek help and speak up without fear.
