The teacher contacted the family using a stranger’s phone; the police began a probe into the distress message and the sequence of events
Guwahati: The 27-year-old teacher from Guwahati, Bhabana Sarma who went missing a day earlier has been located safely in Shillong. Bhabana was found on the morning of April 25, near the Polo Tower Hotel. bringing relief to her family and prompting a deeper police inquiry.
According to officials, Sarma approached a woman for help and used her phone to inform her family about her location. Soon after, a police team coordinated with local authorities in Shillong and moved to bring her back.
Earlier, her movement raised concerns. She had initially booked a cab to Guwahati Airport but cancelled it, followed by another booking towards Adabari, which she also withdrew. Investigators later traced her last confirmed locations near Jalukbari, where she withdrew Rs. 7,000 from an ATM and made a small payment. Her phone remained switched off thereafter.
Meanwhile, separate inputs suggest she was found in distressed conditions, leading authorities to prioritise her safe return and well-being.
Notably, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bolen Deori stated that officials will now examine “why a danger message was sent and what exactly transpired.” Consequently, the focus has shifted to reconstructing the timeline and identifying any external factors involved.
