State counsel says submissions may take up to a week to ensure a comprehensive case

Guwahati: The charge framing hearing in the death case of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg moved into a critical phase on April 17, as senior advocate Devajit Saikia began presenting arguments on behalf of the Assam government before a special fast-track court in Guwahati.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Saikia highlighted that proceedings have been ongoing for nearly 15 days. He stressed the importance of building a “comprehensive and legally sound case,” indicating that the prosecution is expected to take six to seven days to complete its submissions. “We want to ensure that no legal gaps remain,” he said.
While Saikia initiated the arguments, he clarified that other members of the government’s legal team will continue presenting the case in the coming days. This phased approach, he noted, is aimed at maintaining continuity and thoroughly covering all aspects of the matter.
Meanwhile, the court’s move into the charge-framing stage marks a significant development in the case, as it progresses towards determining the formal charges to be brought.
The hearing is expected to continue over the next several days, with both legal teams preparing for detailed arguments before the court decides on the next course of action.
