At Barak Valley rallies, Home Minister pitches ‘parivartan’ in Bengal, development and security in Assam

Hailakandi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on April 7, sharpened the BJP’s campaign pitch in Assam, combining strong rhetoric on infiltration with promises of development and flood control.
Addressing rallies in Barak Valley, Shah alleged that the Congress had enabled illegal immigration in the region and asserted that curbing infiltration was essential for Assam’s progress. He said a political “parivartan” was inevitable in West Bengal and claimed that infiltrators would be deported once the BJP comes to power there.
The Union Minister also defended the Citizenship Amendment Act, stating it aims to protect persecuted minorities, while accusing the Congress of opposing the law for political reasons.
On governance, he highlighted plans to tackle Assam’s recurring floods, saying the Centre and the state government aim to make the state flood-free within the next five years by creating large water retention structures. He also pointed to peace efforts, noting that around 11,000 youths had returned to the mainstream and that key accords had helped improve stability.
Focusing on development in Barak Valley, Shah cited infrastructure projects such as the Silchar–Guwahati Expressway and proposed institutional expansions, while urging voters to support the BJP across all constituencies in the region.
The Union Minister further accused Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, of lowering the standard of political discourse, asserting that the BJP remains committed to protecting Assam’s identity and ensuring long-term growth.
With polling approaching, Shah positioned the BJP as the party of stability, security, and development in the state.
