Kokrakjhar: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has announced its first list of seven candidates for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, 2026.

This list was approved by the party president, Pramod Boro, following recommendations from the Central Working Committee. Boro, a former Chief Executive Member of BTR, will contest from the 46 No. Tamulpur (ST) constituency.

According to the announcement, Aninda Basumatary has been fielded from 1 No. Gossaigaon, while Raju Kumar Narzary will contest from 2 No. Dotma (ST). Lawrence Islary has been nominated for 3 No. Kokrajhar (ST). The party has also selected Nerswn Boro for 45 No. Bhergaon, Dipen Boro for 46 No. Udalguri (ST) and Kamalsingh Narzary for 20 No. Bijni.

The candidate list was formally released by UPPL General Secretary (Administration) Raju Kumar Narzary. The development comes as political parties ramp up preparations following the Election Commission of India’s enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

Speaking to the media, Narzary said a final decision is expected soon. He added that the party has already begun road rallies and that public opinion will guide its next steps. He also stressed the need to maintain balance in the Bodoland Territorial Council, expressing confidence about the party’s electoral prospects.

Meanwhile, the UPPL is also deliberating on its future within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The issue was discussed during a core committee meeting held in Kokrajhar on March 15. Party sources indicated that a prior communication sent to the state BJP leadership did not receive a response, prompting internal discussions on a possible withdrawal.
