At a public meeting in Assam, the senior Indian National Congress leader alleged rising corruption, corporate capture of land, unemployment and diversionary welfare tactics under the BJP government, urging youth to defend identity, livelihoods and indigenous rights.

Guwahati: Addressing party workers and citizens, Priyanka Gandhi said a deep pain runs through every household in Assam, as people feel they are slowly losing the state they once knew, a place where communities lived in unity and shared ownership of their land, forests and rivers.
“What kind of Assam was that?” she asked. “An Assam of harmony, shared culture and dignity. Today, people are silent but they are watching everything.”
The MP alleged that corruption has spread across the administration, indigenous land is being handed over to big industrialists, and several communities are being denied fair representation. Promises to Adivasis and protections under the Sixth Schedule, she said, remain unfulfilled.
Turning to employment, she questioned the lack of opportunities for youth and women. “Are small industries growing? Are new jobs being created? No,” she said, adding that pre-election cash transfers cannot replace long-term security or livelihoods.
Gandhi further claimed that public resources are steadily moving “from the hands of the people into the hands of a few,” alleging irregularities in contracts and major projects. “Every rupee taken through corruption comes from the pockets of the people,” she said.
Recalling how the Congress fought tough elections under BJP governments earlier, she urged workers to stay united and courageous. “With the strength of our organisation and the people, we will face every challenge,” she asserted.
